The 2012 Rachel Corrie Ramadan Football Tournament was again a tremendous success.
32 teams participated in this fifth annual event, which this year started after just after Eid and proceeded in the form of a “knock out” style tournament finishing on September 4th.
Organizers sent this note:
“A few hours ago, the Rachel Corrie Football tournament for this year ended with the victory of Nojoom Seena team from Rafah over Al Rahma team from Khanyunis and Al Ittihad Al Wattani obtaining the third place after defeating Block J team. It was an exciting and wonderful final day. Congratulations to all of us for the good work! “
We are very happy that Gaza football star Mahmoud Sarsak, to whom the tournament was dedicated this year, was able to join the festivities and receive special recognition. Mr. Sarsak bravely endured a hunger strike to protest his illegal detention and won his release.
Organizers put together a great community event that helps sustain the spirit of the people under occupation, and remembers the spirit and courage of their friend and daughter, Rachel Corrie. Congratulations to all indeed.
